Bideford College Residential Sept 2021

Bachelor’s Hall provided an incredible opportunity for our students to be completely immersed in the wonder and mystique of Dartmoor. Our Year 7 Students enjoyed a brilliant 3-day, 2-night experience at Bachelor’s Hall in late September/ October. This location was ideal in terms of access to the moors for their Tyrolean crossing ran by Dartmoor Training Centre whilst still being removed enough to give a sense of unfamiliarity.

The accommodation provided a large working space in the dining room, a modern kitchen and gender split rooms upstairs. The garden was also utilised for team building activities during the day and gave the students of sense of freedom.

Launceston College Residential October 2021

We had the very great pleasure of spending two weeks with four groups of students at Bachelor’s Hall. Despite the weather doing its worst we had a wonderful time. The building and all the renovations have been tastefully done and are in tune with the original building and its surroundings. The dorms are modern, comfortable and the building is warm and well equipped.

From the centre we were ideally placed to get straight onto the moor and experience Dartmoor, its history and beauty; a short trip into Princetown and the visitors centre helped to provide context to our students’ experience. Students were challenged to complete a long walk and a Tyrolean crossing before returning to the centre to revive and refuel. Our stay gave students a great start to their time at secondary school and they loved the opportunity to immerse themselves in their surroundings. We had a great time and would like to thank all the instructors and staff for a memorable experience.

Egloskerry and Altarnun Primary Residential Sept 2021

Bachelor’s Hall immersed our pupils in a unique residential stay. The remote yet accessible location ensured that our Y6 pupils had opportunities to feel like they were in an unfamiliar and different landscape yet still be close to home.

The accommodation was perfect for us, enabling split gender groups and opportunities for independence e.g. cooking, cleaning. Moreover, the children worked together as a team to help each other socially and emotionally whilst away from home. The location is perfect for a variety of outdoor pursuits (archery, moorland walking, bushcraft) including close links to Dartmoor Training Centre who ran events for us.

The experience left children more resilient, confident and making memories that will last a lifetime.

Willand Brownies March 2023

enjoyed a fabulous weekend at Bachelor’s Hall in March and even saw a light dusting of snow! We had an amazing day with Justine at Royal Tor Farm looking at wildlife and farm animals. Our afternoon decorating beehives was also great fun. The hostel itself was perfect for our group and we will be back again. Thank you! Willand Girlguiding Leadership Team.
